Today was a long one.
Morning chores went smooth, loaded two beef and took them to the processor.
Came home and swapped trailers, emptied all the market freezers back into the walk-in freezer.
Went and fixed a huge water leak (stupid cows).
Then me and the whole crew drove down to Sylacauga to see the awesome people at @marblecitymeats and pick up our 2nd group of pasture raised chickens.
This was an awesome group of birds and we can't wait to get them added to the website tomorrow.

Moving a small group to a new field this morning.
This is one of our best pastures. There is a pretty bad patch of thistle and pigweed in one area but for the most part there is more clover , fescue,, Timothy, Bermuda, and rye here than anywhere I've ever seen. The cows have been next to this field for 2 days and I'm surprised they haven't tore the fence down yet to get to it.
This is our first season on this property but we have already made a huge difference on the forage quality by running the chicken's over it.

We haven't been as active on the media in a little while and there is a million reasons why.
We have been incredibly busy, flying through chores, moving animals, packing orders, making deliveries and doing markets taking animals to the processors and picking the fresh meats up.
We haven't had much quiet, quality , family time in the past 2 months, just working around each other all day every day.
Over the past few months we have debated the idea of purchasing another much needed/wanted piece of equipment. Our 4 wheeler finally just wore out and the minivan isn't quiet cut out for the pastures although it has impressed me a few times.
Today we picked up a new polaris ranger and made arrangements to spend a few hours up on the hill after chores. The kids are super pumped about roasting smores and playing with the fire.
We enjoyed a beautiful sunset watching the afternoon shadow move across the 60 acres from atop the hill.
Soak it in girls, its back to work tomorrow...

DSR Farms is a small-scale livestock farm in Danville, AL.
We use holistic and regenerative farming methods to help us produce the most sustainable, most nutrient dense and best tasting meats, eggs and diary for our customers. We sell direct to the consumer as well as restaurants, food trucks and local events. The name DSR farms comes from the first letters of our 3 daughters names, Dallas, Shelby and Raven. One of the main reasons we let a backyard hobby farm turn into thousands of animals is not only to provide the best food we could to our family but also the opportunity to earn a living while being here with our family every day.
